Ştefan Radu Oprea, Minister for the Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship and H.E. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Bin Saeed Al Matrooshi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Romania discussed today Romania’s participation in the Dubai 2020 World Exhibition and the cooperation relations between the two countries.
The concrete measures to intensify joint approaches to capitalize on the business and cooperation opportunities identified in the margins of the first session of the Joint Cooperation Committee between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, held in Bucharest, April 16-17, 2018 were analized.
Minister Oprea assured the emirate diplomat of determining the Ministry for the Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Environment to hold an exceptional participation of Romania at the Expo Dubai 2020 and the Economic Forum to be held on this occasion. At the same time, the Romanian Minister mentioned the finalization in the next period of the draft Law on Private Public Partnerships: “this Law, highly expected by the private environment, will also contain projects of strategic interest for Romania. We will send you all this information to be presented to investors in your country so as to know the opportunities for developing successful business in Romania.”
Ambassador Al Matrooshi appraised, in turn, the Committee’s discussions and presented the interest of the emirate investors in expanding their business relations in Romania, exemplifying in this regard the Al Dahra semi-governmental company, which is investing in the agricultural sector in Romania.
He also thanked Romania for its decision to attend the Dubai 2020 World Expo and assured that it would provide support to the Foreign Affairs and Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Ministries for attending this special event for the Emirates.
Background information
The United Arab Emirates are the main trading partner of Romania in the Persian Gulf region and the fourth in the Middle East. In 2017, the Romanian – Emirate trade amounted to USD 366.22 million, of which USD 313.23 million were Romanian exports. The balance of trade is favorable to Romania, with a surplus of USD 260.23 million as at 31 December 2018.
